Der Deutsche Amateurtheaterpreis amarena ist die renommierteste Auszeichnung für die außerberufliche Theaterszene in Deutschland. Für die dazugehörigen Festivals wurde mir sowohl 2022 als auch 2024 die ganzheitliche visuelle Konzeption und Gestaltung des Festivaldesigns anvertraut.
Da für die Edition 2024 ein begrenztes Budget zur Verfügung stand, haben wir das bewährte Designkonzept von 2022 in den Grundzügen übernommen. Durch gezielte, leichte Anpassungen konnte das Erscheinungsbild kosteneffizient aktualisiert werden, ohne an visueller Identität und Wiedererkennbarkeit zu verlieren.
The German Amateur Theater Prize amarena is the most prestigious award for the non-professional theater scene in Germany. For the associated festivals, I was entrusted with the comprehensive visual concept and design of the festival branding in both 2022 and 2024.
As a limited budget was available for the 2024 edition, we adopted the fundamental framework of the proven design concept from 2022. Through targeted, minor adjustments, the visual identity was updated in a cost-efficient manner without sacrificing its distinct visual identity or recognizability.
Da das Festival 2022 dezentral in vier verschiedenen Städten stattfand, wurde der Name amarena im Logo auf vier Zeilen aufgeteilt und farblich kodiert.
Jedem Austragungsort war eine Zeile und eine Farbe zugeordnet, ergänzt durch den jeweiligen Stadtnamen, der klein und vertikal platziert wurde – zumindest immer dann, wenn das Logo groß genug abgebildet war.
Since the 2022 festival took place in a decentralized manner across four different cities, the name amarena in the logo was divided into four lines and color-coded.
Each venue was assigned a specific line and color, complemented by the respective city name—which was rendered in small type and placed vertically—at least whenever the logo was displayed at a sufficiently large size.
Die visuelle Identität für 2024 greift ganz bewusst den Veranstaltungsort Hamburg auf. So steht die Welle im Schriftzug für die Nähe zum Wasser und die maritime Atmosphäre der Hansestadt.
Als wiederkehrendes, spielerisches Element taucht zudem an verschiedenen Stellen eine stilisierte Möwe auf, die das visuelle Erscheinungsbild auflockert und dem Festivaldesign eine sympathische, lokale Note verleiht.
The visual identity for 2024 deliberately draws upon Hamburg as the event venue. Thus, the wave within the lettering symbolizes the city’s proximity to the water and the maritime atmosphere of the Hanseatic city.
Furthermore, a stylized seagull appears at various points as a recurring, playful element, enlivening the visual identity and lending the festival design a charming, local touch.

Ergänzend zum eigentlichen Briefing entstand diese Machbarkeitsstudie für potenzielle Merchandise-Artikel. Die Entwürfe illustrieren, wie das dynamische Farbsystem des Festivals auf Taschen und T-Shirts wirkt und die visuelle Identität greifbar macht.
Complementing the main briefing, this feasibility study for potential merchandise items was created. The designs illustrate how the festival's dynamic color system translates onto bags and T-shirts, making the visual identity tangible.
Flyer 2022
Für das Festival 2022 wurde das Design um vier zusätzliche Programmflyer erweitert. Jeder Flyer transportiert das Farbkonzept des jeweiligen Spielorts und liefert dem Publikum detaillierte Informationen zu den Stücken, die dort live auf der Bühne präsentiert wurden.
For the 2022 festival, the design was expanded to include four additional program flyers. Each flyer conveys the color concept of its respective venue and provides the audience with detailed information about the pieces presented live on stage there.
